Chris Wallace's big night
I'm flying to Vegas now for Wednesday's debate. Dylan Byers is already there. He emails: Chris Wallace is about become the first Fox News host ever to moderate a presidential debate.

The presence of any Fox personality on the stage, even one with Wallace's sterling reputation, would normally be cause for controversy and complaint among progressives who view anyone with the Fox imprimatur as inherently biased. (And there has been some of that.) But in 2016, when the GOP nominee is at war with his own party and Fox is a network in transition, it's significantly more complicated. Here's Dylan's full story...
For Fox, a payoff
Jay Wallace, Fox's EVP in charge of news, tells Michael Grynbaum: "With Chris Wallace at the debate, it's really showing that the hard work we've put into the news product over the years, when no one was paying attention to us, has really paid off." Grynbaum notes that Fox has been "relentlessly promoting" the debate, with Wallace's photo in the corner of the screen..
Check out these Hannity quotes...
Grynbaum also interviewed Sean Hannity, who hints at some resentment over Rupert Murdoch's new enthusiasm for the news side of Fox. Or at these jabs specifically at Megyn Kelly?

-- "My bosses have only given me nothing but support and appreciation for the high ratings I get. As far as my colleagues? I don't mean this to be disrespectful, but I don't care what they think. They've got their role, and I've got mine."
-- As he headed out to host "Hannity:" "This is the spice! We're getting back to the spicy part of the network, the one that pays the bills. No one wants to talk about that part."
"We cannot be silent anymore"
People writer who accused Trump of assault speaks
Frank Pallotta reports: Natasha Stoynoff, the People mag reporter who accused Donald Trump of sexually assaulting her while she was writing an article about him and his wife Melania, is speaking out about her story and the criticism she has gotten since it was published. "Women are talking about this, and they need to," she told the mag... "We cannot be silent anymore. I didn't tell my story for politics, I told it for women."

People ID'ed six witnesses -- colleagues and close friends of Stoynoff's -- who have come forward to corroborate her account in various ways. Details here...
Fact-checking Trump's voter fraud falsehoods
I second what NYT's Michael Barbaro tweeted Tuesday afternoon: "Cable should give as prominent play to dispelling/fact-checking 'rigged' claims as they do to promoting them, since there is zero evidence."

I don't think covering Trump's statements automatically equates to "promoting them," but the more fact-checking, the better… Including in on-screen graphics… Predicting a "stolen" election is a particularly pernicious lie and needs aggressive push-back…
Ali Velshi joins MSNBC
MSNBC's Phil Griffin writes in a memo: "I'm pleased to announce Ali Velshi joins MSNBC beginning tomorrow… Ali's sharp economic analysis will be a valuable asset…" Velshi will be a reporter and analyst across the schedule, and he'll probably enter the anchor rotation down the road…
Surprise: Jim Rich out at NYDN
Mark Mooney emails: Jim Rich is leaving the NY Daily News, and the tabloid is naming is fifth EIC in the last ten years. Mort Zuckerman's surprise announcement named longtime editor Arthur Browne as the new EIC.

Browne has been with the paper, except for a brief departure, since he was a copy boy in 1973. In recent years he has been the paper's editorial page editor. Perhaps more significantly, Zuckerman appointed his nephew Eric Gertler to be co-chairman and co-publisher. Gertler has been general counsel for the paper...
Netflix's "structural damage?"
Netflix stock soared 19% on Tuesday thanks to its explosive Q3 earnings. CNBC says this was the stock's single best day since 2013.

But if you read all about the Q3 earnings, you should also read Shira Ovide's skeptical look. She says "a shiny coat of paint can't hide the structural damage in the house of Netflix..."
Snapchat wants a change
Recode's Peter Kafka just published this scoop: "Snapchat wants to stop sharing ad revenue with its media partners..." Proposing a flat upfront license fee instead... Giving the company "full control over its ad inventory as it gears up for a public offering..."

Michael Moore releasing "surprise" Trump doc
Deadline's Anthony D'Alessandro writes: "Michael Moore has his own October Surprise: He made a movie about Donald Trump, which the filmmaker is self-distributing this weekend..." Moore is holding a Tuesday night premiere at IFC Center... Arranging screenings in NYC and LA... And making the doc available on iTunes. It is based on a one-man show he performed in Ohio recently...

-- Jon Dube (who snapped the above pic) tweets from the premiere: "Crowd laughing non-stop throughout..."
-- Steven Zeitchik: "Michael Moore says he's been writing #Trumpland for better part of last year, started filming 11 days ago and finished at 7am this morning..."
Still no lawsuits...
It's been nearly a week, and Trump has yet to file a lawsuit against the NYT, the Palm Beach Post, or any other news outlet that has drawn his ire. Last week several Trump aides said lawyers were "drafting" the suits...

A snippet from Carl Cameron's interview with Trump Monday night: "You keep saying that the media is collectively working against you. Do you think we are part of a global conspiracy really? I mean honestly, a global conspiracy?" Trump: "Fox hasn't been great. But the others have been really bad. Yeah…"
Day in the life of Scottie Nell Hughes
Olivia Nuzzi has a profile of Scottie Nell Hughes coming out in GQ -- online Wednesday morning. Nuzzi writes: "Though her work for CNN is technically a part time gig, the effort she puts in can be consuming... She prepares extensive notes and rehearses for every appearance she makes, even if it's just a few minutes long..."
