Trump amps up talk of a rigged election

Down in the polls, Donald Trump is intensifying his efforts to undermine the fundamental integrity of America's electoral process. Here's what Trump said on Twitter this morning -- and note the last line:
Fanning the flames: Rudy Giuliani, a top Trump adviser, told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" -- without presenting any evidence of misdeeds: "You want me to (say) that I think the election in Philadelphia and Chicago is going to be fair? I would have to be a moron to say that."

Giuliani also claimed only Democrats cheat. He said: "I've found very few situations where Republicans cheat. They don't control the inner cities the way Democrats do. Maybe if Republicans controlled the inner cities, they'd do as much cheating as Democrats do."

This talk is making Republicans uncomfortable. "Our democracy relies on confidence in election results, and the speaker is fully confident the states will carry out this election with integrity," said AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for House Speaker Paul Ryan. "We have made it easy to vote and hard to cheat," Ohio's Republican secretary of state Jon Husted told The New York Times' Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns today. "We are going to run a good, clean election in Ohio, like we always do."

Was Mike Pence off message? This morning he told Chuck Todd on NBC's "Meet the Press" that "we will absolutely accept the results of the election." Pence explained the rigged election talk by saying: "The American people are tired of the obvious bias in the national media. That's where the sense of a rigged election goes here."

Must-watch video: CNN's Brian Stelter addressed Trump's rigged election claims on "Reliable Sources" today.

BUZZING

BAR TALK

Two polls: One has Clinton up 11, other pegs her lead at 4

Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump nationally among likely voters -- but two new polls diverge on the size of her lead. Clinton is 11 percentage points ahead of Trump, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll out Sunday. An ABC News/Washington Post poll, meanwhile, pegs her lead at 4 points.

What the NBC/WSJ poll shows: In a head-to-head with Trump, Clinton leads by 20 points among women -- while Trump is ahead by 3 points with men. However, just 32% say the "Access Hollywood" video disqualified Trump from being president and that he should drop out of the race, while 53% disagree. Clinton's debate performances have helped, too, the NBC poll found. Thirty-one percent of those surveyed said the two debates have made them more likely to vote for Clinton, while 14% say the debates make them more likely to back Trump.

What the ABC/WaPo poll shows: Enthusiasm among Trump supporters is down to 79%, while Clinton's is up to 83% -- erasing the 10-point advantage in that measure that Trump had before the first debate. And two-thirds of registered voters say the "Access Hollywood" tape doesn't affect their vote. Thirty-eight percent say they think Trump's apology for those comments is sincere, and 68% say Trump probably has made unwanted advances toward women.

LAST CALL

Clinton's Goldman Sachs speech transcripts published

From CNN's Dan Merica: WikiLeaks released Saturday what appear to be transcripts of Hillary Clinton's three paid speeches to financial heavyweight Goldman Sachs. The remarks, which were hacked as part of an extensive breach of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta's email account, show Clinton commenting on Wall Street's role in financial regulations, relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the damage done to US foreign policy by past WikiLeaks releases.

Pelosi: Trump 'projecting' his problems onto others

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi attacked Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Sunday, saying "he's always projecting" his own political problems onto Hillary Clinton.

Here's what she told Tapper on "State of the Union" today: "When he knows his temperament is not going over very well, he says, 'I have the temperament for the job.' When he knows that his stamina is lagging, he says, 'I have the stamina for the job.' When he knows that he has exposure in terms of women, he projects onto Bill Clinton. When he knows that -- I don't know what this drug thing is, but I'm very suspicious that he's saying she should take a drug test; what's he talking about there? And when he says she's engaged in an international conspiracy, whatever he's describing it as, his own people describe his advisers admitting to having back-channel conversations with the Russians."

Tim Kaine made history today as the only member of a national ticket to deliver a speech entirely in Spanish at a Spanish-language church service in Miami.
